Winterlude -- or Bal De Neige as we say in French...is a festival of ice

and snow held on the Rideau River Canal skateway each winter in Ottawa,

our national capital.  Every February around Dows Lake - a man made inner city

lake built in th 1820s at the same time as the Canal, Dows Lake is

transformed into an ice surface and becomes a skating and ice sculpture

paradise. A series winter events - skating competitions, bed races, etc. form

part of Winterlude and last until the ice is unsafe to skate and walk on.

One of Ottawa's most famous desserts...a fried cinnamon pastry called

Beaver Tails... was first made and sold at this event.

Winterlude is a fantastic Area-51 child that breeds as freaky as it's father

does. You never know what you will get when you hybridize with

Winterlude. It is really a Pandora's box for colour diversity.
